L’autore, che ci aveva già abituato a camminare sulla sottile linea dell’impossibile che diventa possibile, di quelle energie sottili che appartengono a un mondo superiore rispetto a quello contingente, ci stupisce con le atmosfere persino più surreali del nuovo romanzo la cui struttura parte da un assunto apparentemente senza senso, quello cioè dell’accettazione dell’ipotesi che la terra non sia un globo sospeso nello spazio come universalmente riconosciuto e accettato, bensì che sia un’immensa distesa che si estende oltre i confini dei poli e che la parte che conosciamo, e che viviamo, sia una sorta di grande recinto dentro cui esseri più evoluti di noi ci hanno rinchiusi per consentirci di elevarci verso una coscienza superiore. Non solo, Piero Campanini si inoltra anche in un’intrepida accettazione della tesi dell’esistenza di bambini con doti particolari, abitualmente definiti Indaco, nelle mani dei quali mette la possibilità di salvare il mondo conosciuto dalla sua distruzione attivata nel momento in cui alcuni operai al lavoro sulla Grande Moschea alla Mecca scoprono un rudere, successivamente identificato come l’Arca, la quale provoca un campo magnetico che ucciderà gli operai e che, qualche settimana dopo, provocherà una forte esplosione seguita da un black out mondiale. Da quel momento in avanti cominciano a subentrare personaggi che faranno parte del team internazionale e segreto di ricerca sulle cause delle esplosioni, costituito da agenti segreti, militari di alto livello e da quattro personaggi, che saranno poi i protagonisti assoluti della vicenda e che appartengono a quel ristretto gruppo di prescelti con doti particolari che permetteranno loro di entrare in contatto con entità energetiche superiori, di fatto guide verso la risoluzione del grave meccanismo attivato con la scoperta dell’Arca. Le vicende si intrecciano ed evolvono conducendo il lettore in un viaggio all’interno di teorie e di supposizioni, che nel romanzo vengono esposte come certezze sottolineando l’apertura a possibilità diverse da quelle che si è abituati a considerare vere, giocando sulla collaborazione planetaria per sconfiggere una minaccia esterna, forse auspicando che davvero si possa verificare una tale unione. Il buono e il cattivo, il bene e il male si nascondono, si modificano, e si svelano in maniera inaspettata cambiando completamente le carte in tavola, mostrando quanto tutti i luoghi comuni sull’assoluta magnanimità e sul buonismo di facciata di alcune nazioni sia in realtà sovvertibile nel momento in cui gli interessi in campo possono minacciare quella facciata, facendo divenire persino crudeli coloro che fino a un momento prima vengono considerati gli eroi positivi delle vicende. Ma in realtà ciò su cui si focalizza maggiormente la trama narrativa di Piero Campanini è il fascino di quelle personalità Indaco, in grado di andare oltre l’immaginabile e che proprio in virtù del mistero e delle circostanze che sono chiamati a risolvere, scopriranno a pieno le loro potenzialità. Hema, Yoshito e Marcel, guidati dalle facoltà più avanzate di Greta, di fatto un soggetto Cristallo, saranno in grado di stabilire un contatto con la struttura plasmatica dell’Arca proteggendo così tutti coloro che partecipano alla missione di salvataggio del genere umano. Tra le ipotesi più incredibili avanzate dall’autore vi è la possibilità che gli alieni non siano Ufo, non vengano cioè dallo spazio che non esisterebbe se non come illusione fornita al genere umano, bensì appartengano ad altri mondi contigui, oltre i confini delle barriere innalzate ai poli per proteggere la terra dagli antagonisti che userebbero il mondo conosciuto come un campo di battaglia.

Il lettore è completamente coinvolto non solo dalle vicende del romanzo Terra Ultra Piatta, bensì anche dalle ipotesi, in questo romanzo assolutamente plausibili poiché perfettamente motivate dall’autore, mostrate come un’altra verità, un qualcosa mai preso in considerazione proprio perché appartenente a un’opzione negata nel corso dei secoli fino al punto di diventare solo un’ipotesi di fantasia… ma è davvero così? Questo è ciò che viene spontaneo chiedersi e che scopriremo ora attraverso questa intervista.

Piero, il suo romanzo è un viaggio affascinante alla scoperta di teorie che nella realtà contemporanea, molto materialista, non sono prese in considerazione. Da cosa è stato ispirato per il soggetto del libro?

Partiamo col dire che l’idea di una Terra piana, una teoria nota come “terraplanismo”, è un’idea ampiamente respinta e considerata falsa dall’intera comunità scientifica, e dunque che il mio è un romanzo e non un saggio a sostengo di quella tesi. La teoria della Terra piana sostiene che noi viviamo su una superficie, dove il Polo Nord è al centro e una barriera sta tutt’attorno. Ovvero che ciò che chiamiamo Terra sia un’area limitata da un muro di ghiaccio che ne circonda i bordi, isolandola da altre regioni. Secondo i sostenitori di questa teoria, l’idea diffusa che la Terra sia un pianeta sferico è dovuta a una cospirazione perpetuata da governi e organizzazioni internazionali, atta a limitare la conoscenza per governare le popolazioni mantenendole nell’ignoranza. Come per molti argomenti del genere mistero, intrigo, complotto, esiste un’abbondante quantità di informazioni che circolano sulla rete. Un repertorio di saggi e post, oltre a innumerevoli tentativi empirici di dimostrare che la Terra non è un planetoide ma piuttosto un’area pianeggiante. Da questa galassia di notizie ho tratto l’idea di comporre un racconto, accettando la sfida di riuscire a tenere assieme l’enorme massa di informazioni, mettendo per così dire un po’ di ordine in ciò che avevo trovato. Personalmente non credo possibile che la teoria del “terraplanismo” si riveli vera. A fronte della tesi esistono molte prove che dimostrano il contrario, tra cui le immagini scattate dallo spazio, le eclissi lunari e la forza di gravità che è coerente con la forma sferica di una massa planetaria.

Dalle pagine emerge un importante approfondimento delle tesi di alcuni gruppi che vanno contro la narrativa ufficiale; quanto tempo ha impiegato ha studiare le teorie che poi sono state la base della struttura narrativa? Crede che queste opzioni possano essere possibili? Può esistere un modo differente di osservare la realtà che scardina tutte le credenze comuni?

Quando un tema riesce a sollevare la mia curiosità mi impegno a fondo, e sempre la rete si rivela un ottimo e veloce archivio dal quale trovare in poco tempo ciò che serve per soddisfarla. Ciò che mi ha più intrigato in questo caso, è stata la possibilità di utilizzare la teoria della Terra piana come metafora per descrivere qualcosa che va oltre la nostra conoscenza, ossia un aldilà esistenziale e la possibilità che esista un regno o un’esperienza che ci è ancora sconosciuta ma che suppone la permanenza dell’essere oltre la vita terrena, ovvero oltre la barriera biologica. Naturalmente è una questione legata alle credenze religiose, filosofiche e spirituali e non ha alcuna connessione diretta con la forma fisica della Terra, ma l’ipotesi di un “oltre la barriera” mi ha offerto l’occasione di riflettere sulla trascendenza e sul perpetuarsi di ogni essere umano. Altra cosa è stata la possibilità di scrivere un racconto di fantascienza capovolgendone le regole. Perché in Terra Ultra Piatta tutto ciò che è planetario, orbitante, raggiungibile con viaggi interstellari scortati da possibili incontri con forme aliene, viene cancellato dall’idea stessa che lo spazio non esiste, e dunque che ogni supposizione fantascientifica deve essere corretta se non addirittura ripensata totalmente.

Nel romanzo introduce anche l’esistenza di personalità particolari, definite Indaco, che presentano caratteristiche più avanzate rispetto ai soggetti ordinari. Vuole approfondire questo concetto in maniera più estesa? Esistono personalità che hanno un’energia più forte rispetto alle altre?

Che esistano persone definite Indaco è parte di una credenza espressa per la prima volta dalle comunità New Age, secondo le quali gli Indaco sono individui con caratteristiche e abilità speciali che li distinguono dalle persone comuni. È una nozione senza alcun fondamento, mai stata riconosciuta dalla comunità scientifica, e che qui ho usato a unico scopo narrativo. Serviva una persona come Greta, una personalità sensitiva, intuitiva e dotata di una maggiore consapevolezza, che facesse da conduttore a tutto il percorso narrativo. Le abilità psichiche di Greta, come la telepatia o la chiaroveggenza, riescono infatti a creare un legame con i vari personaggi e condurli, assieme al lettore, nel mondo ignoto che c’è oltre la barriera dei ghiacci antartici e oltre il limite culturale, intellettuale e psicologico che formano le idee sul mondo e su noi stessi che diamo per scontate.

Anche in questo libro, come nel precedente che abbiamo raccontato qualche mese fa, non manca l’elemento romantico intrecciato con quello avventuroso, il fantastico e infine il giallo, l’inaspettato. Quanto è stato complesso strutturare una storia costantemente in bilico tra realtà e possibilismo? Le vicende narrate sembrano essere profetiche rispetto all’attuale scenario geopolitico e anche rispetto agli ultimi stravolgimenti della natura; è forse anche lei una personalità Indaco con doti predittive?

Senza essere necessariamente un Indaco, chiunque può profetizzare con buona possibilità di successo quanto sta per accadere nel mondo di oggi. Questo perché la geopolitica riguarda le dinamiche delle relazioni internazionali, dei conflitti, degli accordi e delle politiche dei vari attori globali, cose che vengono raccontate quotidianamente da tutti i giornali. Presupporre come si svilupperanno tali dinamiche può essere un esercizio non facile, certo, poiché sono soggette a improvvisi cambiamenti e a fattori imprevedibili, ma la storia dell’umanità in fin dei conti è un ripetersi di eventi compresi tra azioni e reazioni che tutti ben conosciamo, dei déjàvu dunque. In conclusione, pur senza essere Indaco o uno studioso di statistica, chiunque può provare a stimare possibili scenari geopolitici e persino quelli climatici. La creazione della storia di Terra Ultra Piatta, che si muove tra realtà e possibilismo, ha richiesto uno sforzo particolare, una pianificazione e un’elaborazione attenta dell’iter narrativo. Per questo è stato importante che stabilissi alcune regole, al fine di ottenere quell’ordine a cui accennavo, così da essere coerente e rendere facile al lettore la navigazione tra le prospettive scomposte e le dimensioni alternative che gli propone il racconto. Dunque per facilitare ho usato il miglior collante narrativo che conosco e a cui sempre mi affido: l’amore. D’accordo, la storia è un racconto di fantascienza, una fantasia tra mistica e tecnologia supportata da informazioni tutte rintracciabili sul web, ma per me è soprattutto una storia di relazione. Parlo della relazione che ognuno di noi ha con l’enigma dell’esistenza e per estensione, di quella che intratteniamo con il prossimo, con quel particolare e unico prossimo, voglio dire quella che scegliamo e che è inesplicabile. L’amore tra Marc e Greta è il perno sul quale ruota tutta la narrazione di Terra Ultra Piatta, la vera e unica risposta a come sia la Terra e quale sia l’energia che la governa, qualunque forma questa possa rivelare un giorno di avere.

A questo punto la domanda di rito: quali sono i suoi prossimi progetti? Quale il soggetto del suo prossimo romanzo?

Sono alle prese con un romanzo di formazione, il racconto di una emancipazione e di un risveglio. Non voglio aggiungere altro se non che ancora una volta sarà una donna, anzi una ragazzina, a portare il lettore e me stesso per mano a indagare il travagliato dilemma che racchiude il senso della vita.

Marta Lock’s interviews: Ultra Flat Earth, the enthralling new novel by Piero Campanini, between unusual hypotheses and openness to different possibilities

The author, who had already accustomed us to walking the thin line of the impossible that becomes possible, of those subtle energies that belong to a world superior to the contingent one, surprises us with the even more surreal atmospheres of his new novel, whose structure starts from an apparently meaningless assumption, that is, the acceptance of the hypothesis that the earth is not a globe suspended in space as universally acknowledged and accepted, but rather that it is an immense expanse extending beyond the boundaries of the poles and that the part we know, and live, is a sort of great enclosure within which beings more evolved have enclosed us to enable us to rise towards a higher consciousness. Not only that, Piero Campanini also goes into an intrepid acceptance of the thesis of the existence of children with special gifts, usually referred to as Indigos, in whose hands he places the possibility of saving the known world from its destruction activated at the moment when some workers restoring the Great Mosque in Mecca discover a ruin, later identified as the Ark, which provokes a magnetic field that will kill them and which, a few weeks later, will cause a massive explosion followed by a worldwide blackout. From that moment on, characters begin to take over who will be part of the international and secret research team on the causes of the explosions, made up of secret agents, high-ranking military personnel and four characters, who will then be the absolute protagonists of the story and who belong to that select group of people with special gifts that will allow them to come into contact with superior energy entities, in fact guides towards the resolution of the serious mechanism triggered by the discovery of the Ark. The events intertwine and evolve, taking the reader on a journey within theories and suppositions, which in the novel are exposed as certainties, emphasising the openness to possibilities different from those we are used to considering true, playing on planetary collaboration to defeat an external threat, perhaps wishing that such a union could really take place. The good and the bad are hidden, changed, and unveiled in unexpected ways, completely changing the cards on the table, showing how all the clichés about the absolute magnanimity and good-naturedness of certain nations can actually be subverted when the interests at stake can threaten that façade, making become cruel even those who until a moment before were considered the positive heroes of the events. But in reality, what Piero Campanini’s narrative plot mainly focuses on is the fascination of those Indigo personalities, capable of going beyond the imaginable and who, precisely by virtue of the mystery and circumstances they are called upon to solve, will discover their full potential. Hema, Yoshito and Marcel, guided by the more advanced faculties of Greta, in fact a Crystal subject, will be able to establish contact with the Ark’s plasma structure, thus protecting all those involved in the mission to save mankind. Among the most unbelievable hypotheses put forward by the author is the possibility that the aliens are not UFOs, i.e. they do not come from space, which would not exist except as an illusion provided to mankind, but rather belong to other contiguous worlds, beyond the boundaries of the barriers erected at the poles to protect the earth from the antagonists who would use the known world as a battlefield. The reader is completely engrossed not only by the events of the novel Ultra Flat Earth, but also by the hypotheses, in this novel absolutely plausible as they are perfectly justified by the author, shown as another truth, something never taken into consideration precisely because it belongs to an option denied over the centuries to the point of becoming just a fictional hypothesis… but is it really so? This is what one spontaneously wonders and what we will now discover through this interview.

Piero, your novel is a fascinating journey to discover theories that are not taken into account in today’s very materialistic reality. What inspired you for the subject of the book?

Let us start by saying that the idea of a flat Earth, a theory known as ‘terraplanism’, is an idea widely rejected and considered false by the entire scientific community, and therefore that mine is a novel and not an essay supporting that thesis. The Flat Earth theory holds that we live on a surface, where the North Pole is at the centre and a barrier is all around. That is, that what we call Earth is an area limited by a wall of ice surrounding its edges, isolating it from other regions. According to the proponents of this theory, the widespread idea that the Earth is a spherical planet is due to a conspiracy perpetuated by governments and international organisations to limit knowledge in order to govern populations by keeping them in ignorance. As with many topics of the mystery, intrigue, conspiracy genre, there is an abundance of information circulating on the net. A repertoire of essays and posts, as well as countless empirical attempts to prove that the Earth is not a planetoid but rather a flat area. From this galaxy of news I got the idea of composing a story, accepting the challenge of managing to hold together the enormous mass of information, putting some order into what I had found, so to speak. Personally, I do not believe it is possible for the theory of ‘terraplanism’ to turn out to be true. There is plenty of evidence to the contrary, including images taken from space, lunar eclipses and the force of gravity consistent with the spherical shape of a planetary mass.

The pages reveal an important insight into the theses of some groups that go against the official narrative; how much time has it taken you to study the theories that later formed the basis of the narrative structure? Do you think these options may be possible? Can there be a different way of looking at reality that unhinges all common beliefs?

When a topic manages to arouse my curiosity, I try hard, and always the net proves to be an excellent and quick repository from which I can quickly find what I need to satisfy it. What intrigued me most in this case was the possibility of using the theory of the Flat Earth as a metaphor to describe something beyond our knowledge, namely an existential afterlife and the possibility that there is a realm or experience that is still unknown to us but which assumes the permanence of being beyond earthly life, i.e. beyond the biological barrier. Of course, this is a question related to religious, philosophical and spiritual beliefs and has no direct connection with the physical form of the Earth, but the hypothesis of a ‘beyond the barrier’ offered me an opportunity to reflect on transcendence and the perpetuation of every human being. Another thing was the possibility of writing a science fiction story by turning the rules upside down. Because in Ultra Flat Earth everything that is planetary, orbiting, reachable by interstellar travel escorted by possible encounters with alien forms, is obliterated by the very idea that space does not exist, and therefore that every science-fiction assumption must be corrected if not totally rethought.

In the novel, you also introduces the existence of special personalities, referred to as Indigos, who have more advanced characteristics than ordinary subjects. Would you like to elaborate on this concept in more detail? Are there personalities that have a stronger energy than others?

That there are people defined as Indigos is part of a belief first expressed by New Age communities that they are individuals with special characteristics and abilities that distinguish them from ordinary people. It is a baseless notion, which has never been recognised by the scientific community, and which I have used here for narrative purposes only. What was needed was a person like Greta, a psychic, intuitive personality with a heightened awareness, to act as a conductor for the whole narrative journey. Indeed, Greta’s psychic abilities, such as telepathy or clairvoyance, manage to create a bond with the various characters and lead them, together with the reader, into the unknown world that lies beyond the Antarctic ice barrier and beyond the cultural, intellectual and psychological boundaries that shape the ideas about the world and ourselves that we take for granted.

Also in this book, as in the previous one we told you about a few months ago, there is no lack of the romantic element intertwined with the adventurous, the fantastic and finally the detective story, the unexpected. How complex was it to structure a story constantly poised between reality and possibility? The events narrated seem to be prophetic with respect to the current geopolitical scenario and also to the latest upheavals of nature; are you perhaps also an Indigo personality with predictive qualities?

Without necessarily being an Indigo, anyone can prophesy with a good chance of success what is going to happen in the world today. This is because geopolitics is about the dynamics of international relations, conflicts, agreements and the policies of the various global players, things that are reported daily in all the newspapers. Predicting how these dynamics will develop may not be an easy exercise, of course, since they are subject to sudden changes and unpredictable factors, but the history of mankind is after all a repetition of events between actions and reactions that we all know well, déjàvu therefore. In conclusion, without being Indigo or a statistician, anyone can try to estimate possible geopolitical and even climatic scenarios. The creation of the story of Ultra Flat Earth, which moves between reality and possibilism, required a special effort, careful planning and elaboration of the narrative process. That is why it was important for me to lay down some rules, to achieve the order I mentioned, so as to be coherent and make it easy for the reader to navigate between the disjointed perspectives and alternative dimensions that the story proposes. So to make it easier, I used the best narrative glue I know and always rely on: love. All right, the story is a science fiction tale, a fantasy between mysticism and technology supported by information that can all be found on the web, but for me it is above all a story about relationships. I am talking about the relationship each of us has with the enigma of existence and by extension, the one we have with our neighbour, with that particular and unique neighbour, I mean the one we choose and which is inexplicable. The love between Marc and Greta is the pivot around which the entire narrative of Ultra Flat Earth, the true and only answer to what the Earth is like and what energy governs it, whatever form it may one day reveal itself to have.

At this point, the customary question: what are your next projects? What is the subject of your next novel?

I am working on a coming-of-age novel, a tale of emancipation and awakening. I don’t want to add anything else except that once again it will be a woman, or rather a young girl, who will take the reader and myself by the hand to investigate the troubled dilemma that holds the meaning of life.
